What is Buchu?
Buchu is a Fynbos shrub that is indigenous to South Africa and has a long history of use in traditional herbal alternative to medicine. The leaves of the Buchu plant have a history of being used as an alternative antiseptic on open wounds and blisters, as well as an alternative to help alleviate swollen and painful joints.
Reports cataloging the use of Buchu have been recorded as far back as the early nineteenth century, with Dr. George G. Sigmond’s article first documenting the plant in Volume 30, Issue 784 (8 September 1838) of the Lancet- a leading, international journal. Since then numerous journals have published articles citing the powerful benefits of this little plant, including the American Eclectic Materia Medica and Therapeutics, 1898.
